TL;DR
- Foro Penal reports 302 political prisoners released in Venezuela since January 8.
- NGOs state released individuals have substitute measures to detention, not full freedom.
- Restrictions include travel bans, media restrictions, and periodic court reporting.
- JEP calls for the complete freedom of those released.
- Parliament President Jorge Rodríguez announced a release process on January 8 without specifying numbers or conditions.
- Minister of Interior and Justice Diosdado Cabello claimed 808 releases before December and denied the existence of political prisoners.
The NGO Foro Penal reported this Thursday that it has confirmed the release of 302 political prisoners in Venezuela since January 8, when the release of an "important number" of people was announced, a few days after the US attack in the South American country, which ended with the capture of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores.
On its X account, the director president of Foro Penal, Alfredo Romero, specified that the count is as of 1:00 PM local time (5:00 PM GMT) this Thursday.

Several NGOs clarified that the political prisoners have been released, but do not have full freedom, as they were granted substitute measures to detention, as stated by the coordinator of the organization Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón (JEP), Martha Tineo, to EFE on Wednesday.
In this regard, Tineo indicated that the political prisoners who left the prisons in recent weeks face a ban on leaving the country, on speaking to the media about their cases, and the obligation to report periodically to the courts, among other restrictions.
Therefore, JEP requested that the individuals included in the releases be "fully freed," warning that they have suffered "arbitrary detentions for political reasons."
Excarcelación
On January 8, the president of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, announced a release process of an "important number of people," without specifying the quantity and conditions of this measure, which has led several NGOs and relatives of political prisoners to demand a list to identify the beneficiaries.
The Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, assured this week that 808 people were released "before December," without specifying the date, and denied the existence of political prisoners in the South American country. EFE
