This year, the Ministry of Popular Power for Tourism (Mintur) validated seven new routes in the state of Trujillo in order to strengthen sustainable, community, ecological, cultural, gastronomic and historical tourism in the region.

“Campamento Musi”, “Monumento Natural Teta de Niquitao”, “Cárcava de San Antonio – Falla de Boconó”, “Campamento Paraíso Escondido”, “Boconó: Corazón Natural de los Andes”, “Boconó: Huellas de Historia y Cultura” and “La Plazuela: Patrimonio Cultural” are the new routes that consolidate the tourist offer of the entity raising the number of certified destinations to 32.

During the formal delivery of the certification of the “La Plazuela: Cultural Heritage” route to the mayor's office of the Trujillo municipality, the sole tourism authority, María Gabriela Albornoz, reported that this is the first validation granted directly to a mayor's office.

“It is an honor to deliver route number 32 to the first municipality to join this great project. The Trujillo municipality is highlighting historical and cultural tourism, but more nature and gastronomy routes are coming. We want to thank the community of La Plazuela for joining and investing in tourism,” he proudly stated.

He emphasized that these itineraries are possible thanks to the joint work of the National Government with entrepreneurs and service providers, which strengthens local development and guarantees a quality experience for those who choose Trujillo as a tourist destination.

Boosting local tourism

For his part, Mayor Carlos Terán described La Plazuela de Mocoy as a place of cobblestone streets and colonial architecture that treasures centuries of history.

“The Mocoy Plaza offers a route that allows us to visit the church, the rest stop, the house of the Trujillo poet Samuel Barreto Peña, and also the house where the curruchete, a typical Trujillo sweet, originated. The history of this town will be recounted by students from the Padre Rasquin School and by prominent members of this community. We are going to promote the Trujillo municipality as a leading tourist destination,” stated Terán.

He also recalled that recently 50 tourism students from the state of Lara toured this route and enjoyed the 10 stations that make it up, including the house “El Portón de Lluvia”, the church Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the house of Curruchete, El Estadero, Bulevar de la Plazuela and the Plaza “Cruz Carrillo”.

Now these new tourism products have the national quality seal, certifying the richness of Boconó and Trujillo, as well as offering destinations that mix landscapes, tradition, history, adventures and Trujillo magic.
